Salvation

Are you pondering the questions, “So what is this saved thing all about?” or “How would I start a relationship with Jesus?

Well, the Bible is the playbook where we can find all the answers:
Romans 10:9 says:
“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

You might know that John 3:16 says:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I would think that most people would say that they don’t want to perish but would want everlasting life. So let’s step through the beginning process.

You might have heard of “The Salvation Prayer”. It’s a roadmap to receiving Jesus Christ as savior and setting your life on a new trajectory. To be born again you must confess Jesus as Lord and believe that He is who the Bible says He is. When you ask Him into your heart, you are allowing Him to be the Lord of your life. This doesn’t need to be complicated.

So, let’s stay with the basics!

Salvation takes place when a person listens to the salvation message, believes it, and makes a decision to receive Jesus into his or her heart. The Salvation Prayer is not a ritual based on specific words and it’s not the prayer that has power, but it’s about a sincere step of faith committing our lives to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Recognizing that what He did for us on the cross was a really big deal.

Basics:
1. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
2. Believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins and was raised three days later.
3. Repent of your sins and commit to not going back to them.
4. Accept Jesus as your savior.
5. Get Baptized.

Here is a simple way of having that conversation with God:
God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now, I have been living for myself. Please forgive me for all that I have done wrong. I realize that I need You in my life. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and that you rose again on the 3rd day. I receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Jesus I accept you as my personal Savior! Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness and the gift of eternal life! From this day forward, I will follow you in the best way I know how.  Amen.

I have some recommendations if you made this most important life decision:
1. Tell other Christians about your new faith in Christ and get baptized. It’s the outward display of your inward commitment.
2. Start an open dialog with God, include Him in your daily activities. Spend time with God each day. Start to develop the daily Prayer habit.
3. Start reading the Bible daily. There is a lot to learn and it’s an awesome process. Ask God to teach you as you read. Consider starting in the Gospel of John and then read progressively through the New Testament from the book of Acts.
4. Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Find a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
5. Find a local Bible-believing church where you can learn and grow in your relationship with God.

Born Again:
Lastly, I’d like to address the topic of being born again so it doesn’t sound like a crazy concept. This is how I understand it and hopefully it helps:
1. We are a spirit. Our spirit will live on after our body dies, it will go either to Heaven or to Hell.
2. We have a soul; which is explained as being our mind, our will, and our emotions.
3. And we live in a body. It’s what we live in as we are alive here on earth.

When we ask Jesus into our lives something supernatural happens, where the Spirit of God {The Holy Spirit) inseminates our spirit and we come to life “In the spirit”. God now lives inside us and wants to teach us a lot. It’s amazing.

Get excited about this journey, it’s a supernatural ride and be ready to have your mind blown.
